The Livestock Predation Program has worked with villagers since 2003 on the eastern borders of Tarangire National Park where an estimated 40 lions die in retaliation for killing livestock.

Daphne Sheldrick's husband David was the first warden of Kenya's Tsavo East National Park in the 1950s. Her 1966 book The Orphans of Tsavo is about the menagerie of animals they ended up caring for in Tsavo, among them baby rhinos and elephants.
